THE big chill is snow joke for Emmerdale bosses as they try to film SUMMER scenes.
Arctic conditions are also affecting Coronation Street and EastEnders â" all three big soaps film about six weeks in advance.
Heavy snowfall has left Emmerdaleâs Leeds set looking like a Christmas card when it is meant to be May in soapland. It threatens to delay the filming of crucial outdoor scenes.
Actors including Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle) and Sammy Winward, (Katie Macey), have been shivering in their light spring outfits while the props department have been helping to shovel snow off the set. An ITV source said: âEmmerdale has been badly hit by snow and the cast are freezing. They are wearing big padded coats between takes.
âSome outdoor scenes will be cancelled if it doesnât clear up.
âCoronation Street has managed to avoid most of the snow but the cast are still having to cover up while filming summer scenes. Hand warmers and hot drinks are being passed around to keep everyone toasty.â
EastEnders bosses were relieved to find that snow had melted before filming began yesterday. They were also looking after cast and crew with extra hot drinks and hot water bottles.
Our Elstree source said: âItâs incredibly cold for this time of year but weâre soldiering on and hopefully we wonât get delayed.
âFingers crossed we have seen the last of the snow.â
