Making sure to daily apply sunscreen on your children isnât easy for any mom â" but it sure is important, says mother-of-three Jennifer Garner, who has been working with Neutrogenaâs Choose Skin Health initiative for six years.
âOf course itâs a struggle!â the actress, 40, tells PEOPLE Â Wednesday at the Neutrogena Sun Summit. âThe kids do not like getting sunscreen put on, especially at at a certain age, at least not mine. If you have kids out there who like sunscreen, hallelujah!â
Garner, who admits she luckily missed out on the âmajor baking-in-the-sun yearsâ by mostly staying inside when she was younger, wants to ensure that her children with husband Ben Affleck â" Violet, 7, Seraphina, 4, and Samuel, 1 â" also avoid future skin damage by educating them about the dangers.
âWe talk about skin health, and they know why they have to wear sunscreen,â she says. âIf someone forgets, theyâll say âHey, did you forget to put sunscreen on me?ââ
She also praises Neutrogenaâs kid-friendly SPF application options for making things a little easier at home: âI give them a stick that they can rub on their faces. Or they can do a spray if they want it fast. Iâve used everything.â
And Garner admits sheâs not above rewarding her kids for remembering their sunscreen.
âI know itâs horrible â" and Iâm admitting to bribery â" but Iâve given them an M&M [for putting] sunscreen on before,â Garner reveals. âIâve [also] done a sticker chart. Iâll do whatever it takes â" it has to be a non-negotiable part of life.â
