THE VOICE contestant Lemuel Knights has slammed X Factor for backing hopefuls who try to win with sob stories.
The singer â" kicked off the ITV1 show in 2011 after initially impressing judge Gary Barlow â" said he didnât want to get votes by telling tales of woe.
Insisting this was his last shot at the big time on a reality show, he said he chose the BBC1 show as itâs not about personality or image.
The teen â" who sang his own take on Jessie Jâs single Do It Like A Dude on last nightâs show â" said: âThe X Factor want an artist where vocals are not necessarily the best thing.
âBut with The Voice it is just about how you sound, nothing to do with if you have got learning difficulties, or if your dogâs friendâs grandmaâs passed.â
Lemuel â" whose dad died from a heart attack when the singer was just eight â" hopes to make his mother proud.
He said: âI am very close to my mum. In all I do, Dad is always around.
âIf it is for anyone, it is for my mum.â
Lemuelâs performance left coaches Jessie J and Danny OâDonoghue fighting over him.
But in a bid to win Lemuel over, Jessie dueted with him â" and her tactics worked.
