First up, we started the week with the annual Olivier Awards. A Mecca for any self-respecting West-End Wendy, and for yours truly, watching the best of theatre land prance, dance and overact on the befitting Royal Opera House stage, I was like a pig in poo.
A triumphant night for Dame Helen Mirren as unbelievably in the awards' 37-year history, she bagged her first Olivier of her career for her portrayal of the Queen in The Audience. Radiating her usual poise, elegance and style, Dame Helen was joined for the evening by a who's who of theatre luvvies.
Enormous scarves, air kissing and big hair (on the men!) were the order of the night, with some decent acting royalty (er and Will Young) thrown in for good measure. Drama's power couple Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory were joined by James McAvoy, the Strallen Sisters, Wicked's original leading lady, Idina Menzel, and even Myleene Klass popped along fresh from signing her decree nisi, perhaps utilising the event as a little 'single and ready to mingle' party.
The ceremony, hosted by everyone's favourite leading lady Sheridan Smith, and that spiffing Lord Grantham chap from Downton, celebrated the best in theatre over the past year, with new musical Top Hat and book/play adaptation The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time particularly enjoying success.
And everyone loves a jazz hands, all singing all dancing finale, so who better to close such a show than that of the touring cast of Cats? With original choreographer Gillian Lynne finally getting recognition for her decades of hard work, I'm only sorry they didn't wheel out the original cast for the spectacular - I'd have given good money to see my pal Louie Spence, John Partridge and co pop on the spandex one more time!
One show that won't be up for an award anytime soon, or ever in fact, is the much-hyped Spice Girls musical, Viva Forever. Viva 'Forever' - oh the irony. Poor ticket sales and a massive financial loss have forced the 'marmite' show to close after only six months of zig-a-zig-ahh-ing.
Well at least consummate supporter (*slash* weekly regular) Geri Halliwell has something to fill the void, as her over zealous trial on the UK X Factor last year has clearly paid off. It's been confirmed this week that Ginger is to take fellow Spice Girl Mel B's place on another Cowell creation, Australia's Got Talent. In a case of 'flipping jammy', Mel's loss is definitely Geri's gain as contract disputes have forced Scary Spice to pull out of her Oz commitment.
However, with Mel reportedly back in the frame for an X Factor UK judging role, and the rest of the girls booked up with radio presenting gigs, stage shows, fashion emporiums, I'm sure they're not too upset over their short-lived musical venture.
A musical extravaganza that looks set to be one of THE must see shows of the year, is new dance triumph, Footstorm. Featuring the winners of Sky1's Got to Dance, Prodijig, the seven-strong dance troop have hit the musical theatre scene with their mashup of urban contemporary and Irish dance.
Already playing to sell-out shows and standing ovations, this touring production is definitely worth a see when it comes to a theatre near you. Currently in Dublin, the critics' favourite is travelling the length and breadth of the country finishing up at London's Peacock Theatre in July. For info and a sneak peek check this out.
Talking of new ventures, there's a new guilty pleasure TV channel in our midst. If like me you love a good dose of trashy reality and fascinating jaw-dropping ob-docs, then new channel TLC is the one for you.
Launched this week, shows including the controversial US child 'star' Honey Boo Boo, Strange Addictions featuring a woman who chows down on her cats' fur balls (!), and homegrown fashion and celebrity gossip featuring Holly Valance and Lisa Snowdon, trust me, your Sky Planner has a new best friend.
And to finish off my week, I donned a frock and a pair of heels, bowled up to London's Leicester Square, and walked the 'white' carpet for the uber hyped Star Trek Into Darkness world premiere.
Fans, Trekkies and cast alike, with the sun coming out to play, the mood was electric in the country's capital. A special starship Enterprise-esq set adorned the heaving square, as the movies' stars all descended for their moment of glory.
Baddie Benedict Cumberbatch, star of the show Simon Pegg and newcomer Alice Eve flew the flag for the Brits in their suave and sophisticated attire, but it was Hollywood hottie Zoe Saldana that stole the show with her enviable looks and monochrome, (slightly risky) outfit.
The film itself, if intergalactic space fights, tinnitus inducing special effects and a penchant for skinny jeans and ill fitting airtex mustard sweaters are your thing, you're gonna flipping love it!
