No doubt millions of children pestered their parents to let them stay up for the Britain’s Got Talent semi-final results show on Tuesday.
Given that it was half-term, no doubt millions agreed â€" only to be greeted by the less than child-friendly sight of Jennifer Lopez gyrating on stage in a thong and fishnet tights.
Her explicit dance routine provoked a furious backlash online, with campaigners calling on Ofcom to ‘crack down’ on ITV for airing it on a family show.

The broadcasting regulator is now considering whether to investigate the programme, after receiving dozens of complaints.
Thousands of viewers took to Twitter to express their outrage, with some saying the singer looked like a ‘prostitute’.
Even the show’s co-host Anthony McPartlin appeared taken aback, glancing at her outfit after the performance and raising his eyebrows.
Only judge Amanda Holden seemed to be a fan, declaring: ‘JLo’s a***. I just wanted to bite it. It was fabulous’.
Miss Lopez’s act was shown after the 9pm watershed during the Britain’s Got Talent results show on Tuesday. But lobby group Mediawatch UK said the programme had deliberately targeted younger viewers by screening the episode during the half-term holiday.

Its director Vivienne Pattinson said: ‘Parents will have been more likely to let their children stay up beyond their normal bedtimes.
‘And given the main show is incredibly popular with children, lots of them will have wanted to stay up a bit later to find out who won. It was totally inappropriate to show something like this, given their audience. It seems as if they never learn.’
Miss Lopez, 43, performed her single Live It Up in thigh-high leather boots and a skin-tight black body suit.

The song’s suggestive lyrics contain the words, ‘You push me harder, I do the same, Boy wanna feel ya, in every way’.
Towards the end of the routine, which would not have been out of place in a pole-dancing club, the singer slid to the front of the stage on her knees in a suggestive move which left little to the imagination.
The results show, which airs between 9.30pm and 10pm, was watched by 7.1million people, slightly down from the 8.7million who watched the main show between 7.30pm and 9pm.
Thousands expressed their outrage online after it screened. A typical tweet read: ‘Jennifer Lopez looked like a stripper/prostitute. I feel sorry for her children.’
Yesterday, Ofcom said it had received 30 complaints about the performance so far.

In 2010, it cleared a similar lewd performance by US pop stars Rihanna and Christina Aguilera on the X Factor in 2010, saying the performance was ‘at the limit’ of acceptability for broadcast before 9pm for a family audience.
Miss Pattinson said: ‘By doing nothing back then, Ofcom have allowed broadcasters to believe this kind of thing is acceptable.
‘The boundary was allowed to slip, and it has been slipping ever since.’
An ITV spokesman said: ‘We do not believe that Jennifer Lopez’s performance would have exceeded the expectations of the vast majority of the audience for this long-established entertainment programme.’

Fi Calder was scathing, tweeting: ‘#BGT does #jennifer lopez realise its a family show â€" only thing missing was the pole â€" cover up your cheeks please!’
Charlotte Twine agreed, saying: ‘#JenniferLopez put some clothes on, #BGT is a family show, what sort of role model are you being for the young girls watching?’
Another Twitter user, Rhys Stallard, pointed out: ‘Thought Britain’s got Talent was a Family show? Watching Jennifer Lopez was almost Porn!!’ Sally Flint said the same, declaring: ‘I think Jennifer Lopez needs to be reminded that bgt is a family show.’
One user, calling herself Sunflower, directed her comments to the singer. She tweeted: ‘@JLo Totally inappropriate. Put some clothes on and keep your bits to yourself. This is supposed to be a family show.#BGT.’ Amanda Gennard took particular exception to what she was wearing: ‘Disgusted in @JLo outfit on BGT. family show an she wears that! Disgusting!!! @GotTalent @antanddec @SimonCowell #BGT.’
Laur Cooney questioned what Miss Lopez was trying to achieve with her explicit routine: ‘I’d be ashamed to be Jennifer Lopez’s family what is she wearing? She’s a artist not a prostitute.’
Twitter user ‘@TheBloxham’ was more troubled by the song itself. He tweeted: ‘Bloody hell the lyrics in Jennifer Lopez’s song are quite sexual for a family show...’
Another, ‘@eleanorjoynutt’, pointed out the age of the audience, commenting: ‘Jennifer Lopez was just way to much on BGT. There’s young children watching and she has her popo all up in the camera. Put it away girl!’
And a user calling herself ‘@karryescort’ said the same, tweeting: ‘Jennifer lopez should know better than to dance like that dressed like that on a program that so many kids watch shame on you BGT.’
