Food connoisseurs often look down on trend of taking snaps of restaurant meals.

And celebrity chef Paul Hollywood, 47, was mocked by his estranged wife when he posted a snap of his empty dinner plate while on a romantic date.

The Bake Off star is reportedly dating Mexican TV chef Marcela Valladolid, 34, who is a co-judge on the American version of the BBC programme.

Paul posted a Twitter photo of an elegant restaurant table with empty plates and glasses of red wine.

His wife Alexandra, 49, responded with: 'If I went out on a romantic evening I'd be gazing lovingly at my date, Not tweeting my empty plate.'

And when Marcela had tweeted a photo of herself in a low-cut evening dress, with the words '#waiting #patiently', Alexandra responded with a parody photo of herself in a similar dress.

A friend also mocked the petite cook, who is believed to be under five feet tall, tweeting: 'Maybe there will be another tweet from the pint sized one annoyed at the lack of attention?'

Alexandra replied: 'oh u make me laugh!', while another friend added: 'Perhaps the food was more interesting than the date!'

Paul and Alexandra have been married for 15 years and have an 11-year-old son, Josh.

They split in May, amid rumours that Paul had grown close to his TV co-star.

Bake Off co-judges Paul and Marcela were said to have 'hit it off from day one' with Marcela publicly describing him as a 'handsome devil'.

Paul's agent said in May: 'We confirm that Paul Hollywood has separated from his wife. Their priority is protecting their son. He will be making no further comment on this private matter.'

Mother-of-one Marcela also split from her Mexican politician husband Fausto Gallardoof only days later.

Earlier this month, Alexandra, who is bringing up her son alone, tweeted: 'I've lived in a bubble all these years. I had no idea of the strength you need to go it alone. Single mothers, I salute you!'
