They enjoyed a surprise reunion on Monday by putting on a united front for a day of family fun with their children.

But by Tuesday, Shane Warne and Elizabeth Hurley looked worlds apart as they went about their respective days.

The Australian cricketer seemed to be in high spirits as he took his mind off his recent relationship turmoil with a round of golf prior to the 2013 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Kingsbarns, Scotland.

While he didn't appear to have a care in the world as he happily teed off alongside a wackily-dressed Sir Ian Botham, the sportsman's estranged fiancee wasn't quite so carefree as she stepped out in central London.

The 48-year-old actress cut a stony-faced figure as she emerged from her home in the capital, looking decidedly glum as she headed out to run errands.

Once again, the Hampshire-born model was without her glittering engagement ring as she left her property for the day.

In spite of her solemn appearance, Liz opted for a look of understated autumn chic, teaming black skinny jeans and a matching wool jumper with a khaki fur-lined gilet and suede shoe boots.

The mother-of-one accessorised with an oversized black leather handbag and huge sunglasses, while wearing her brunette locks tumbling in loose waves around her shoulders.

Coincidentally, Hugh Grant - Elizabeth's former flame - was also practicing for the same tournament on The Old Course in St Andrews.

Just the previous day, Shane and Liz were spotted heading to lunch alongside Shane's three children, Brooke, Summer and Jackson.

Walking towards their restaurant of choice - Santa Lucia off the Fulham Road - the group looked in high spirits despite the speculation surrounding the state of their relationship, with Elizabeth seeming particularly tactile with the other family members.

Chatting away to Shane's three children from his former marriage to ex-wife Simone Callahan, Liz looked very comfortable.

The children, who were joined by Brooke's friend Amy, also seemed happy to see her and embraced before they all made their way back to Liz's London pad.

It has been claimed that the former cricketer's continued friendship with his ex-wife was the real reason behind the differences that have erupted between him and Liz Hurley.

'There are so many "ifs and whys" involving the couple that the truth of their separation seems to be a combination of all the whispers about them,' said a society watcher in Melbourne.

However, other sources say the 48-year-old actress called off the couple's engagement because the cricketer refused to confirm a 'definite date' for their nuptials after proposing back in September 2011.

A source told the Sun on Sunday: 'She kept pushing for a date but he was happy as things stood. She ended it furiously. She started to question whether Shane had any intention of marrying her.

'She feels let down. They had big, big plans. She really thought she had found the one in Shane. He could have easily saved the relationship by agreeing to a definite date.'

'She is devastated about the way things stand as she feels she has invested a lot in their relationship which was, until recently, heading towards the ultimate goal of marriage.'

Liz jetted back to London on Sunday following a recent trip to New York, and was still without her engagement ring.

But despite the apparent issues in their relationship, the 44-year-old former sportsman is said to be determined to save the couple's relationship, with friends claiming the romance shouldn't be 'written off' just yet.

On Wednesday the couple sent mixed messages on Twitter in the wake of their alleged split.

While Elizabeth appeared to confirm she and the cricketer were no longer together by telling her followers that the events were 'too raw and personal to share right now', Warne seemed to directly contradict her by insisting that the pair hadn't 'thrown in the towel just yet'.

Shane wrote: 'Some of the reports re EH & me r absolute rubbish. Yes, we're sorting through some (private) issues. But we're not throwing the towel in yet.'

Meanwhile, Elizabeth said: 'Apologies to loyal followers for Twitter silence on recent events. Too raw and personal to share right now.'

Warne and ex-wife Simone split in 2005 amid allegations that the sportsman had been unfaithful.

However, just two years later, the pair gave their relationship another go after Simone decided to take him back.

Their split was later confirmed in 2010, when Shane debuted his romance with Elizabeth.
