Mark Wright gushes over new fiancÃ©e Michelle Keegan... as he slates ex Lauren Goodger

They dated on and off for almost 10 years, and the dramatic twists and turns of their tumultuous love lives were one of TOWIE's biggest storylines throughout its first few seasons.

But Mark Wright has dismissed his relationship with former fiancée Lauren Goodger as simply a 'teenage' romance, and claimed 'obviously hadn't' been in love with her.

The 26-year-old TV presenter's scathing comments come after he announced his engagement to girlfriend of nine months, Michelle Keegan, after popping the question while on holiday in Dubai earlier this month.

Gushing over his stunning new fiancée, Mark told heat magazine: 'I never realised love could actually feel like this. I thought I'd been in love before, but I obviously haven't. That was, like, teenage, but grown-up love is totally different.'

Mark even went so far as to compare his relationship with Michelle to the tragic romance between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams' characters in epic love story, The Notebook.

He added: 'Every single thing you imagine and you dream about falling in love with someone, I've got now. I remember watching The Notebook, and I honestly feel like what Noah has got, I've got.'

And it would seem Michelle has gone down a lot better with Mark's close-knit family, with Lauren, 27, and his elder sister Jessica being involved in a well-documented spat.

Dismissing her brother's relationship with Lauren as 'volatile' and 'random', Jessica, 27, insisted his future lies with Coronation Street beauty Michelle.

She added to heat: 'Lauren and Mark met when they were children. They were 15, they weren't even adults, and they had a kind of volatile, random relationship. With Michelle, Mark's besotted. He idolises, he respects her. He just loves her.'

Mark and Michelle first got together while on holiday in Dubai over New Year, and by April the Take Me Out: The Gossip presenter was already smitten.

Speaking to MailOnline at Snowbombing festival in Austria, he said: 'Two years ago I was reading FHM and now my girlfriend is the best looking girl in FHM. I do really love her.'

'I think everyone knows I wasn't the best boyfriend in the world before, but this time it's for real.'

The loved-up couple announced their engagement last week after Mark popped the question while the pair were on holiday in Dubai.

The EX factor: Michelle was previously engaged to The Wanted's Max George, before calling off their union in July 2012

Excitedly writing on her Twitter page, Michelle announced: 'THANKYOU for all the lovely messages, and yes it's true @markwright_ and I are engaged !! We are so SO happy :-) xxx'

Michelle has also previously been engaged to The Wanted's Max George, but called off the union in July 2012.

But Max had nothing but kind words for the happy couple, saying during an appearance Daybreak last week: 'I'm actually really happy for her, she's a wonderful girl. I've met Mark and he seems like a really nice bloke so yeah - I wish them all the luck in the world.'

Speaking to new! magazine, she said: 'I want to drop a dress sizee. I want to be small and trim, toned and fit. I want to be able to put on my skinny jeans without looking bad.

'I've got a great boyfriend who loves me for me, but I want to be fit and toned. So watch this space, because I will be.'

Mark called time on his nine-year on-off romance with Lauren in 2011 after just a five-month engagement.
