She's been scrutinized in the public eye lately for her troubled engagement, but Miley Cyrus took her mind off the drama during a night out in Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old Ashtrays and Heartbreaks singer was spotted smoking a roll-up cigarette at Greystone Manor in West Hollywood, California on Sunday.

Photos capture the star exhaling a cloud of smoke as she stood in the crowded venue.

While there is speculation she was puffing on marijuana, some are speculating it is the salvia, which is legal. (It is a form of mint which is rolled into papers and smoked like a cigarette, chewed, or inhaled from a pipe or bong and offers a quick, potent high that users sometimes describe as being like both marijuana and LSD.)

The blonde pop star was without her fiance Liam Hemsworth as she partied at the trendy night club, but she certainly wasn't alone.

The crowd was packed and an unidentified male in a beanie hat was standing by her side throughout the snaps.

Miley - whose relationship with the 23-year-old has been on the rocks recently amid allegations of cheating and wild partying - was due to tie the knot in June but the couple have decided to put their big day on hold as they continue to work through their issues.

A source told Life & Style magazine: 'They were supposed to get married in June. But there have been so many problems with them, they thought it was best to work out their issues before making such a big commitment.'

Miley's father is unsure if she will even marry Liam.

While the Climb singer is said to have patched up her relationship with Snow White And The Huntsman actor following allegations of his cheating and her wild partying, Miley's dad Billy Ray Cyrus admitted he doesn't know if the wedding is going ahead.

When asked during an interview on ABC News to promote his new book, 'Hillbilly Heart,' if they will get married, he said: 'I don't know. I know as I was writing a book, I wanted to keep that particular moment [Mileyâ€™s wedding] as open-ended as possible.

'I didnâ€™t know the answer.'

However, Billy Ray insists Miley and Liam are still 'great friends.'

He added: â€œThey're young, they're kids, the great news is they're great friends, they're really good friends.

'I play it by ear, I know whatever's meant to be that's the way it's going to happen.'

Billy Ray isn't the only one who is confused, Liam's sister-in-law Elsa Pataky, who is married to his brother Chris Hemsworth, 29, confirmed last week that she is not sure if their wedding in still on.
She said: 'I don't know. If they get married it would be nice to go.'
