If anybody can make schoolboy trousers look cool, Eva Mendes can.
The actress teamed the cropped black slacks with a fitted knit, scuffed brown boots and a retro leopard print headscarf as she checked out of New York's trendy Bowery hotel on Thursday.
The 39-year-old looked relaxed in her casual outfit with her long locks swept off her face in a messy chignon tied up with the pretty scarf.

Slim and toned though Eva may be, she allowed herself to indulge in some comfort food for her trip
She has one of the most envied bodies in Hollywood, with her toned curves even managing to tame Hollywood heart throb Ryan Gosling, but Eva clearly isn't too strict with herself.
She stopped off to pick up some comfort food at at Porchetta in the East Village, before heading on to the airport.
The restaurant sells traditional Italian street food such as roasted pork and crackling sandwiches.
Looking every inch the movie star, Eva accessorised her look with large cats eye sunglasses and an over sized bag as she left the hotel and braved the New York elements.
She kept warm by layering the simple peach long-sleeved round necked top over a white T shirt.
Eva, who is currently working on her next film How To Catch A Monster, alongside her real-life boyfriend Ryan Gosling, raised eyebrows recently when she said she ‘didn’t care’ about looking good.
The brunette beauty also recently spoke about how she doesn't like taking roles purely based on her looks.
She told The Guardian: 'I really don't care about looking beautiful in a film unless I have to for the character. I don't check playback, I don't even know anything about lighting. I love anything that gets me closer to the role.
