Sinitta is the first of Simon Cowell's harem to react after it emerges he is to father a child with socialite Lauren Silverman

He's constantly surrounded by a harem of beautiful women, and has remained close to the majority of his ex-girlfriends.

But it would appear Simon Cowell's close friend, former flame and confidante, 80s pop icon Sinitta, was less than impressed with the news that he is set to father a child with New York-based socialite Lauren Silverman.

Taking to her Twitter page two days before news of the music mogul's impending fatherhood broke to the world, the 49-year-old singer appeared to suggest the situation was 'half miracle, half nightmare'.

Unimpressed? Taking to her Twitter page two days before news of the music mogul's impending fatherhood broke to the world, the 49-year-old singer appeared to suggest the situation was 'half miracle, half nightmare'

Although Sinitta didn't directly reference Lauren's pregnancy in her tweet, the timely posting seemed to allude to the 53-year-old multimillionaire's parenthood.

Writing on July 29, she said: 'Something has just happened ..half miracle, half nightmare! #WakeMeUpIWantToGetOff!!'

But what the rest of Cowell's harem of close female friends, including former flames Mezhgan Hussainy, Terri Seymour and Jackie St Clair, think of his happy news remains to be seen.

One person quick to voice his excitement was the star's Britain's Got Talent co-judge, comedian David Walliams, who appeared to confirm the news via a jokey post on his Twitter page.

David - who recently welcomed his first child with model wife Lara Stone - wrote: 'Oh yeah, and @SimonCowell is doing a baby with a lady.

'For the record @SimonCowell and I tried to have a baby together for many years. But I just couldn't get pregnant.'

Cowell's relationship history includes romances with Sinitta, Terri Seymour and Alicia Douvall, with many of his exes joining him on an annual Caribbean holiday each January.

He is believed to have been engaged twice, once to Page Three model Louise Payne back in 1995, and more recently to make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy.

Cowell and Mezhgan, who met when she was employed as a make-up artist on American Idol back in 2003, broke off their engagement last year.

A close friend of the X Factor multimillionaire confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that socialite Lauren - the wife of Cowell's friend Andrew Silverman - was expecting his child, and claimed she wanted to marry him.

Although Lauren and her husband Andrew Silverman, who have a son together, have holidayed together on numerous occasions over the past four years, it wasn't until they ended their union around a year ago that her friendship with Simon turned to romance.

A friend of Lauren's told of MailOnline: 'Lauren loves Simon, she says that she wants to marry him. And with the baby, she's going the right way about it! But I think this could be really good for Simon.'

Another friend confirmed the baby news and said 'yes, all true'.

Meanwhile, Cowell's mother, Julie, seemed thrilled at the prospect of becoming a grandmother, telling The Sun: 'I'm delighted. It's wonderful.'

However, Lauren's sister-in-law, also named Lauren, who works in real estate in New York told MailOnline: 'I have read the gossip. I have no knowledge whatsoever. I don't know anything about it.'

Lauren, is said to be 'around 10 weeks along' in the pregnancy, according to Us Weekly magazine.

Cowell and Lauren's situation is made more complicated by the fact that she is still married to Andrew.

But sources have exclusively told MailOnline that the property magnate filed for divorce earlier this month.

The couple, who have a seven-year-old son called Adam, are now officially separated. It is not known whether Mr Silverman filed the legal papers after learning of his wife's pregnancy with Simon Cowell, although their break-up does leave his estranged wife free to start a new life with the music mogul.

He is being represented by Manhattan family lawyers Cohen Goldstein and filed his affidavit on July 24.

Cowell and Lauren are believed to have met while on vacation in Barbados some years ago through Mr Silverman.

However, a source revealed that there had been issues in the Silvermans' marriage right from the start – as Mr Silverman's parents Eleonora and Allen never attended their wedding.

A source told MailOnline: 'Andrew's parents boycotted their wedding because they had their doubts about Lauren. They thought she was suspect.'

Andrew now believes Lauren started cheating on him with Simon during one of the many vacations they all shared together.

The pal added: 'They would organise these month-long trips and Andrew would go for two weeks and then leave for business and Lauren would stay behind.

'And people talked when she left their little boy at home and stayed away for a month.'

But a source told Usmagazine.com: 'Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while. As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close.'

Cowell, 53, and Lauren have been seeing each for at least a year, according to friends, and were even seen viewing houses together in Los Angeles earlier this year.

Cowell made no reference to impending fatherhood when he opened up to Chelsea Handler during an interview on her talk show on Tuesday night, sticking to topics including One Direction and his recent health kick.

It remains to be seen just how the news that he is to be a father will go down with Cowell, who has never made a secret of the fact that he doesn't believe he is the right material to become a parent.

In an interview in 2009, Cowell said: 'God, no. I couldn't have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I'd go nuts.

'With kids, you've got a routine you can't escape from. You've got to be up at a certain time. Got to listen. When all you want to do is sit in a corner thinking.'

However, in a more recent interview in April this year, Cowell appeared to have somewhat changed his mind, saying: 'I haven't ruled it out. If I knew I could be - how do I put this delicately - faithful, I would.

'I do like kids, I'm just not sure I'd be any good for the first six months. I don't think I'd adopt because I'd rather have my own. I'd have to say I'd like a little girl.'

Cowell's most recent relationship was with fellow X Factor USA judge Carmen Electra, with whom he was seen on several dates in 2012.

However, in February this year, Cowell confirmed he was single, saying: 'We spent time together and she is so much fun. But I'd like to find a girlfriend.'

But while Cowell has spoken in recent months about his desire to settle down, he then called relationships 'boring' in an interview last month.

He said: 'When no matter how big your house is, you are going to end up on the same sofa, in the same bed or in the same room as a person. It's a boring routine.

'Being on my own in the best thing in the world. It's like breathing in oxygen - I can really switch off then.'
