Rapper Wiley is facing legal action after walking off stage at a festival.

The grime artist performed just three songs at Cockrock, in Cockermouth, Cumbria, before cutting short his set after booing and dodging objects thrown by an angry crowd.

He has now slammed Cumbrians as 'inbreds', 'reptillions', 'county of witches children', 'invalids', and 'cretins' in a series of angry tweets.

Wiley was headlining the non-profit making festival on Saturday, but was met with hostility after declaring on his Twitter page that he might not bother turning up.

Event organisers confirmed on Wednesday that they were meeting with solicitors to decide the exact format their action should take after the Wearing My Rolex appeared was on stage for just 15 minutes of his scheduled 45-minute set.

Some of the crowd were quick to make their feelings known through booing and throwing liquid-filled plastic containers after his Twitter comments.

And immediately after quitting the stage, Wiley bragged that he had earned £1,000 a minute and it had been the 'best job ever' - prompting a furious war of words on Twitter.

Calls for him to donate his fee to charity were dismissed by the singer, who later launched a foul-mouthed attack on the festival - and Cumbrians in general - on his Twitter page, which has more than 352,000 followers.

In a series of offensive posts, he wrote: 'Cumbria listen to this F**K OFF... I don't care about anything you any if you have to say your lucky I ain't even came to Cumbria and done 15 mins and took your money

'Some s**t small capacity festival wtf ...and I done my job and they want money back ..they are lucky I am not sueing them for stuff thrown.

'You inbreds get off my @'s and get a life you been tweeting me for days you a**holes .....f**king reptillions ...'

Refusing to hand back his £15,000 fee, he later added: 'You think I would drive 7 hours and perform for 15 mins while dodging a few bottles and coins to give them back money ......Are u mad lol...

'Today we start the spending of 15 k in style ...F**k them pagans in Cumbria .. Get the f**k out of here you county of witches children...... You bunch of invalids ....bunch of cretins..'

Wiley's agent claimed the singer had been advised by the organisers that if the situation with the crowd became dangerous or out of hand that he could leave the stage early.

He said: 'Wiley continued his performance and then a sea of coins and glass bottles were thrown, one closely missing his face so they called time on the set. It is one thing for crowds to heckle or boo but quite another for people's safety to be at risk by coins or bottles.'

Marie Whitehead, of organiser events for the festival, disputed the claim that bottles had been thrown, saying the festival was '100 per cent glass free'.

She added: 'He was also 100 per cent not told that he could leave the stage by our team.'

This latest incident comes a matter of weeks after Wiley pulled out of the iconic Glastonbury Festival amid claims he wasn't being paid enough for his set and moaning about the rain.

Writing on his Twitter page, he said: 'Soon as I land ... Rain ffs. F**k it life goes on but I am p****d. Glastonbury ain't paying me enough to leave my comfort zone ... tight b******s.

'I'm gonna tell al the promoters how much Glastonbury get away with paying people and the other festivals will think wtf.'

The artist addressed Glastonbury bosses directly, saying: 'Please cancel me I do not want to play for you ever again... please cancel me without sueing I would like that …I'm fed up of coming to your festival I wanna do my own one.'
