X Factor audition flops as just one wannabe turns up - The Sun

X FACTOR appears to have lost its wow factor after an audition for the hit show attracted just ONE wannabe in the first hour this week.

Last year the same audition in Colchester, Essex, saw more than 100 hopefuls queuing from 6.30am for their shot at pop stardom.

But on Tuesday producers opened the doors at the town's Red Lion Hotel to find Cher Townrow was the only auditionee waiting for them.

And the 40-year-old brunette revealed she was only there by chance.

She said: "I was walking home and saw it on the sign for the auditions."

Unfortunately she failed to impress the show's producers. She added: "At home I can sing brilliantly, but it didn't happen here."

It is thought a meagre 20 people eventually turned up to try-out during the day.

And show bosses were said to have been forced into trying to persuade passers-by to audition.

One local said: "It looks like The X Factor has finally lost its grip on the nation.

"It was quite a depressing sight to see - to me it looked like a party with no guests."

Cher claimed the bad weather could have been to blame for the poor turnout.

She said: "I'm surprised no-one else was here. It could have been the cold weather."

An X Factor spokesman said: "The X Factor mobile auditions are taking place across the UK this week, allowing budding artists to try out in towns and cities where the auditions tour doesn't reach.

"The numbers attending vary from location to location and are on a par with last year when we found our winner James Arthur. Overall applications are strong for this series and are in line with last year.

"We've had strong turnouts at other locations for the mobile auditions with more than 250 people turning up at Hull and over 100 in Great Yarmouth."
